Abraham Lincoln
16th President of the United States (1861–1865) who led the Union through the Civil War, issued the Emancipation Proclamation on 1 January 1863 freeing enslaved people in Confederate states, delivered the Gettysburg Address in November 1863, and was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth at Ford's Theatre on 14 April 1865.
