Admiral Frank Jack Fletcher
Frank Jack Fletcher commanded US carrier task forces at the Battle of the Coral Sea in May 1942 and, as overall tactical commander, at the Battle of Midway the following month, where American carriers sank all four Japanese fleet carriers committed to the operation. His flagship Yorktown was sunk at Midway, and he continued to command carrier forces through the early Guadalcanal campaign.
