Adolphe Thiers

Adolphe Thiers was the first President of the Third Republic, a historian-turned-statesman who negotiated the harsh peace terms with Bismarck after the Franco-Prussian War and brutally suppressed the Paris Commune in 1871. His rapid repayment of the German war indemnity led to early evacuation of German troops and earned him the title 'Liberator of the Territory.'
