Afonso III of Portugal
Afonso III completed the Reconquista by conquering the Algarve in 1249, establishing the final borders of Portugal. He moved the capital from Coimbra to Lisbon, summoned the first Cortes with commoner representation in 1254, and strengthened royal authority over the nobility.
