Afonso IV of Portugal
Afonso IV, known as 'The Brave', led Portuguese forces at the decisive Battle of Río Salado in 1340, helping defeat the Marinid invasion. His reign was overshadowed by the Black Death and by his ordering the murder of Inês de Castro, mistress of his son and heir Pedro.
