Ahmose I
Founder of the Eighteenth Dynasty of Egypt and the New Kingdom period. Rising from Thebes, Ahmose I completed the expulsion of the Hyksos rulers from the Nile Delta c. 1550 BCE, reunifying Egypt and establishing an empire that would endure for five centuries. He rebuilt royal authority over the nomes, reorganised the army, and sponsored extensive building projects.
