Alaric I

King of the Visigoths who led his people from the Balkans into Greece and Italy in a decades-long search for a permanent settlement and Roman recognition. After failed negotiations with Honorius, he sacked Rome in August 410 CE, the first time the city had fallen to a foreign enemy in 800 years. He died shortly after near Cosenza.
