Alberto Fujimori

President of Peru (1990–2000) who adopted IMF-backed shock therapy to end hyperinflation, and authorised the intelligence-led operation that captured Abimael Guzmán in 1992; dissolved Congress in a 1992 self-coup, concentrating power, and was later convicted of authorising death-squad killings and kidnapping, serving a 25-year prison sentence.
