Alexander Hamilton
Alexander Hamilton served as Washington's aide-de-camp and led a decisive infantry assault at Yorktown before becoming the principal author of the Federalist Papers alongside Madison and Jay, the essays that argued for ratification of the Constitution and remain the classic exposition of its intent. As the first Treasury Secretary he built the financial architecture, a national bank, funded debt, tariffs, of the new federal government.
