Alfonso XII of Spain
Alfonso XII, son of Isabella II, was restored to the Spanish throne in 1874, ending the First Republic. His reign, guided by Cánovas del Castillo, stabilised Spain through the Restoration system of alternating Liberal and Conservative governments, ending both Carlist and Cuban conflicts.
