Ali Khamenei
Ali Khamenei became Supreme Leader of Iran in 1989 following the death of Ayatollah Khomeini, having previously served as President (1981-1989). As Supreme Leader he holds ultimate authority over state, military, and religious affairs. He has overseen Iran's nuclear programme, proxy network expansion, and decades of confrontation with the United States and Israel.
