Amadeo I of Spain
Amadeo I, son of the Italian King Victor Emmanuel II, was elected King of Spain by the Cortes in 1870 but abdicated in 1873 after finding the country ungovernable amid Carlist insurgency and republican agitation. His brief reign preceded the short-lived First Spanish Republic.
