Ambrose of Milan

Ambrose shaped the relationship between Church and state in late antiquity, famously forcing Emperor Theodosius I to do public penance for the Thessalonica massacre. His hymns, sermons, and theological writings deeply influenced Latin Christianity. He is credited with converting and baptising Augustine.
