Ancus Marcius

Fourth king of Rome (traditionally 642-617 BCE), grandson of Numa Pompilius. He balanced piety with military pragmatism, building Rome's first bridge (Pons Sublicius), founding the port city of Ostia, and codifying the fetial rites for declaring war. He expanded Rome's population by absorbing conquered Latin peoples.
