Antonio Vivaldi
The 'Red Priest' of Venice. Vivaldi composed over 500 concertos, of which The Four Seasons (1725) are the most performed classical works in history. He taught at the Ospedale della Pietà — a home for illegitimate and orphaned girls — whose orchestra achieved European fame under his direction. Like Bach, he fell into obscurity after his death and was rediscovered in the 20th century.
