Aristides the Just

Aristides assessed the tribute contributions of the Delian League allies fairly, earning Athens's reputation as a just hegemon. Ostracised in 482 BCE but recalled for the Persian invasion, he commanded Athenian troops at Plataea. His sobriquet 'the Just' was proverbial in antiquity.
