Arminius

Arminius was a prince of the Cherusci tribe who served as a Roman auxiliary officer, gained citizenship and equestrian rank, and then organized the Germanic coalition that destroyed three Roman legions at the Battle of Teutoburg Forest in 9 CE. He is celebrated in German nationalist tradition as the liberator of Germany. He was killed by rival Germanic chiefs in 21 CE.
