Ashurnasirpal II's annals record systematic terror tactics — mass impalement, flaying, and deportation — deployed to suppress revolts and cow opponents. He rebuilt Nimrud with monumental palaces decorated with narrative reliefs. His campaigns extended Assyrian power to the Levantine coast for the first time since the Middle Assyrian period.
