Augustus

Augustus, born Gaius Octavius, was the first Roman Emperor whose 40-year reign established the Principate and inaugurated the Pax Romana — two centuries of relative peace and prosperity across the Roman world. After defeating Mark Antony and Cleopatra, he carefully reformed Rome's administration, military, and infrastructure while maintaining the forms of the Republic. His reign transformed Rome into the greatest city in the Western world and set the template for imperial rule.
