Aulus Plautius
Aulus Plautius was a Roman general who commanded the successful invasion of Britain in 43 CE under Emperor Claudius. He led four legions across the Channel and defeated the British tribes under Caratacus and Togodumnus in battles at the rivers Medway and Thames, paving the way for Claudius to arrive and receive the formal surrender of British kings at Camulodunum (Colchester). He served as first governor of Britannia until 47 CE and was awarded an ovation upon his return to Rome.
