Aung San Suu Kyi

Myanmar democracy activist (born 1945) and daughter of independence hero Aung San; awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991 while under house arrest by the military junta; released in 2010, led the NLD to landslide victories in 2015 and 2020; deposed and detained in the February 2021 military coup, subsequently convicted on multiple charges.
