Baron von Steuben
A former Prussian army officer who arrived at Valley Forge in February 1778, Baron von Steuben drilled the Continental Army into a disciplined, standardised fighting force using a training manual he wrote himself, the Revolutionary War Drill Manual. His reforms professionalised an army of scattered militias into a force capable of standing against British regulars in open battle.
