Cassander
Cassander was one of the Diadochi (successors) of Alexander the Great who became king of Macedonia. The son of Alexander's regent Antipater, he fought for control of Macedonia and Greece in the Wars of the Diadochi, ordering the execution of Alexander's mother Olympias, his wife Roxana, and his son Alexander IV — effectively extinguishing Alexander's direct line. He refounded Thessalonica (naming it after his wife) and served as the de facto ruler of Macedonia and much of Greece until his death in 297 BCE.
