Chandragupta II (Vikramaditya)
Gupta emperor whose reign (c. 380-415 CE) marked the empire's territorial and cultural peak -- expanding Gupta control across most of North India, patronising the poet-dramatist Kalidasa and the astronomer Aryabhata, and hosting the Chinese Buddhist pilgrim Faxian, whose travel account describes a prosperous, well-governed realm.
