Chandragupta Maurya
Chandragupta Maurya was the founder of the Maurya Empire, the first empire to unify most of the Indian subcontinent under a single ruler. After reportedly meeting Alexander the Great as a young man, he overthrew the Nanda dynasty and then defeated the Seleucid forces of Seleucus I, securing independence for his vast domain. He later abdicated his throne and became a Jain monk, dying by ritual fasting.
