Charles IV of France
Charles IV, called 'the Fair,' was the last of the direct Capetian line, whose death without male heirs triggered the succession crisis that led to the Hundred Years' War. The extinction of the direct Capetian line with his death in 1328 opened the door for rival claimants and the Valois succession.
