Charles V of France
Charles V, called 'the Wise,' systematically recovered most of the territory lost at Brétigny using cautious Fabian strategy under his commander Bertrand du Guesclin — avoiding pitched battles in favour of siege warfare. He reformed royal finances, created a standing army, rebuilt the navy, and assembled one of the finest libraries in Europe.
