Claude-Nicolas Ledoux

Designed the royal saltworks at Arc-et-Senans as a complete industrial community, and the Paris toll gates whose unpopularity contributed to the mood of 1789. Imprisoned during the Terror, he spent his last years on drawings for an ideal city that was never built and influenced architects for two centuries.
