Claudius was considered unfit for power by his family due to physical infirmities, but proved an effective administrator who extended Roman citizenship, reformed the bureaucracy, and completed the conquest of Britain. He was likely poisoned by his fourth wife Agrippina the Younger so her son Nero could succeed.
