Cleopatra VII

Cleopatra VII was the last active ruler of the Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt and the only Ptolemaic ruler to learn the Egyptian language. She formed powerful political and romantic alliances with Julius Caesar and later Mark Antony in her efforts to maintain Egyptian independence against the growing power of Rome. After Octavian's victory at the Battle of Actium she committed suicide, and Egypt became a Roman province.
