Clodius Albinus
Clodius Albinus was a Roman general and governor of Britain who claimed the imperial throne during the crisis following the assassination of Commodus in 192 CE. He was initially recognized as Caesar (junior emperor) by Septimius Severus, who needed to neutralize him while dealing with the rival claimant Pescennius Niger in the East. Once Severus defeated Niger, he turned against Albinus, who was defeated and killed at the Battle of Lugdunum (Lyon) in 197 CE, ending his bid for the throne.
