Corazon Aquino
Corazon Aquino (1933-2009) led the People Power Revolution of February 1986, which peacefully overthrew Ferdinand Marcos's 21-year dictatorship through mass civilian action and military defections. Widow of assassinated opposition leader Benigno Aquino Jr., she became a symbol of democratic resistance. As president she restored democratic institutions, promulgated a new constitution in 1987, and survived multiple coup attempts before completing her single term in 1992.
