Crassus

Crassus suppressed the Spartacus slave revolt (71 BCE) and used his immense wealth to fund Caesar's early career. Seeking military glory to match his partners, he launched an ill-prepared invasion of Parthia. His army was destroyed at Carrhae; Crassus was killed during peace negotiations in one of Rome's worst military disasters.
