Craterus
Craterus was one of Alexander the Great's most capable and trusted senior commanders, often entrusted with the Macedonian infantry phalanx and regarded by the troops as second only to Alexander himself. Alexander sent him back to Macedonia shortly before his own death, reportedly to replace Antipater as regent, but Alexander died before this transfer occurred. In the ensuing Wars of the Diadochi, Craterus allied with Antipater and was killed in a cavalry engagement against Eumenes of Cardia in 321 BCE.
