Cyrus the Great

Cyrus the Great was the founder of the Achaemenid Persian Empire, who through a series of brilliant military campaigns created the largest empire the world had seen to that point, stretching from the Aegean to Central Asia. He was renowned for his tolerance and respect for the customs and religions of conquered peoples, including issuing the Cyrus Cylinder — often called the first human rights charter. His liberation of the Jews from Babylonian captivity earned him unique praise in the Hebrew Bible.
