Decebalus of Dacia

King of Dacia who modernised his army and extracted tribute from Rome before Trajan's wars. Defeated in the First Dacian War (101-102 CE) and forced to accept humiliating terms; immediately began rearming. After the fall of Sarmizegetusa in 106 CE, fled wounded and slit his own throat as Roman cavalry closed in. His head was cut off and sent to Rome.
