Derek Wilford

Derek Wilford (born 1944) commanded the 1st Battalion, Parachute Regiment on Bloody Sunday, 30 January 1972, in Derry, Northern Ireland, when soldiers under his command shot 26 unarmed civilian civil-rights marchers, killing 14. The Saville Inquiry (2010) found that he exceeded his orders and that the shootings were unjustified; the inquiry was severely critical of his command decisions that day.
