Domingo Faustino Sarmiento
Domingo Sarmiento was an Argentine writer and president (1868–1874) whose book "Facundo" framed the nation’s struggle as "civilisation versus barbarism" — the Europe-facing, liberal porteño vision against the caudillo interior. He built Argentina’s public-education system.
