Duke of Wellington

Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, was Britain's foremost military commander of the Napoleonic era, winning a string of victories in the Peninsular War that tied down French forces in Iberia for six years. His methodical defensive strategy and logistical mastery wore down successive French marshals before he advanced into France itself. His greatest achievement came at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815, where he commanded the allied forces that finally and permanently ended Napoleon's rule.
