Edward III
One of England's most successful medieval monarchs, who claimed the French throne and launched the Hundred Years' War, winning major victories at Crécy and Poitiers. He founded the Order of the Garter and organised the army around the devastating longbow. His reign was also marked by the catastrophic Black Death of 1348–49, which killed roughly a third of England's population.
