Emperor Go-Daigo

Japanese emperor who overthrew the Kamakura shogunate in 1333 with samurai allies including Ashikaga Takauji, briefly restoring direct imperial rule (the Kemmu Restoration) before Takauji turned against him and installed a rival emperor, forcing Go-Daigo into exile as a rival Southern Court claimant during the Nanboku-cho period.
