Epicurus
Epicurus was the founder of Epicureanism, a school of philosophy established in Athens around 306 BCE. He taught that the highest good is pleasure understood as freedom from pain and mental disturbance, that friendship is the greatest gift of philosophy, and that the universe is composed of atoms in void with no divine intervention in human affairs.
