Eurybiades
Eurybiades was the Spartan admiral who held nominal supreme command of the Greek allied fleet at the Battles of Artemisium and Salamis in 480 BCE during the Second Persian War. Because Sparta held the leadership of the Greek alliance, Eurybiades commanded the fleet even though Athens supplied the most ships. Herodotus portrays him as conservative and inclined to retreat, requiring considerable persuasion from Themistocles to fight at Salamis, but he ultimately accepted Themistocles' strategy that led to the decisive Greek victory.
