F. W. de Klerk
Last President of apartheid-era South Africa (1989–1994) who in February 1990 unbanned the ANC and other liberation organisations, released Nelson Mandela after 27 years in prison, and negotiated the transition to multiracial democracy through the Convention for a Democratic South Africa; shared the 1993 Nobel Peace Prize with Mandela.
