Ferdinand III of Castile
King of Castile (1217–1252) and León (1230–1252) who united the two crowns permanently and led the most successful phase of the Reconquista: capturing Córdoba, former seat of the caliphate, in 1236 and Seville in 1248, reducing Muslim rule in Iberia to the Kingdom of Granada; canonised by Pope Clement X in 1671.
