Field Marshal Gebhard von Blücher

Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher was the most aggressive and tenacious Prussian commander of the Napoleonic era, known to his troops as 'Marschall Vorwärts' (Marshal Forward) for his relentless offensive spirit, which made him indispensable despite a series of serious defeats including the catastrophic Prussian collapse of 1806. In the campaigns of 1813–1815 he proved the driving force of Prussian resistance, consistently pushing for offensive action and maintaining cohesion after reverses. His pivotal decision after the defeat at Ligny on 16 June 1815 to march toward Wellington rather than retreat eastward directly determined the outcome at Waterloo.
