Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoyevsky
The psychologist of the abyss. Dostoyevsky was arrested in 1849 for belonging to a utopian socialist circle, subjected to a mock execution, and sent to a Siberian labour camp for four years — experiences that radically deepened his understanding of suffering and faith. Crime and Punishment (1866) and The Brothers Karamazov (1880) are among the most psychologically penetrating novels ever written, anticipating Freud, existentialism, and 20th-century moral philosophy.
