Gaius Cassius Longinus

Cassius commanded Roman forces in the Parthian war and later organised the senatorial conspiracy against Caesar, recruiting Brutus to lend moral authority. After Caesar's assassination he governed Syria and raised an army. Defeated at Philippi (42 BCE), he had his freedman kill him when he mistakenly believed the battle was lost.
