General Heinz Guderian

Heinz Guderian was the leading theorist and practitioner of German armored warfare, whose prewar writings shaped Blitzkrieg doctrine and who personally led panzer spearheads in the invasions of Poland, France and the Soviet Union. He commanded Panzer Group 2 during Operation Barbarossa's drive on Moscow, was dismissed in December 1941 after advocating tactical retreat, but was later recalled as Inspector General of Armored Troops and briefly Chief of the Army General Staff.
