General Levin August von Bennigsen
Levin August von Bennigsen, a Hanoverian-born officer in Russian service, commanded the Russian army against Napoleon at Friedland in June 1807, where a premature attack across the Alle river left his force pinned against the riverbank and decisively defeated. The defeat led directly to the Treaties of Tilsit and a temporary Franco-Russian peace.
